Pericarditis

Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium, the sac surrounding the heart.

Pericarditis can present with a number of symptoms listed below.

Pericarditis Symptoms

Symptoms of pericarditis may include:

  • Chest pain

    • May improve with sitting up or leaning forward

    • May worsen with lying down

  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea)

  • Palpitations

  • Swelling (edema) of the lower extremities

  • Cough

  • Fatigue
